Fall Family Fitness

Get outdoors and have some active, family fun!

With the school routine back in full swing and the weather changing, it’s still a great time to head outdoors with your family for some physical activity! Research shows that along with improving overall health, getting outside for some physical activity with your family can improve your child’s success in the classroom. Here are some ideas for your fall family fitness activities!

Take it to the forest

Layer up and head outside for a hike with your family. Surround yourselves with nature and collect leaves, or try your hand at geocaching for a challenging outdoor treasure hunt.

Toss the ball around

Even in those fleeting daylight hours after dinner/homework and before bed, you can grab a ball and toss it around in the yard. If you have more time and a few more bodies, throw together a friendly game of football.

Make yard work a family affair

While you rake up the fallen leaves, the kids might enjoy running around and jumping in the piles of leaves. (Or maybe it should be the other way around?!)

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that children do at least an hour of physical activity every day!
